Team Lead Data Engineering (m/f/x)

Tipico is hiring a Team Lead Data Engineering (St. Julian's, Malta, full-time) to lead and operate its core data services and platforms (Data Lake, DWH and similar) and ensure the business runs on trusted data. You'll manage, coach and mentor a team of Data Engineers; oversee the full data supply chain from design to operation of batch and real-time pipelines, ensuring scalability, performance and SLA compliance; safeguard end-to-end data quality and consistency for reporting, analytics and regulatory outputs; translate business needs into technical specs and delivery plans alongside Product Managers and Architects; align practices with group security and compliance standards; and drive automation, optimisation and innovation while contributing to the data department's roadmap.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's or Master's in Business, IT or a related quantitative field

• 5+ years managing and leading large-scale data projects and high-performing data engineering teams

• Big data expertise (AWS Redshift, S3, EMR, Airflow, Kafka, Spark, Iceberg, Hudi) and scalable data modelling

• Strong ETL/ELT skills, analytics/time-series experience (OpenSearch/Elasticsearch), and coding in Java, Scala or Python

• Comfortable with modern environments (Linux, containers, Kubernetes, cloud-first production systems)

• Strong stakeholder management, negotiation, decision-making and problem-solving

• Proven leadership, coaching and mentoring ability
